　　Cefuroxime axetil is a commonly used cephalosporin antibiotic in outpatient clinics,with commonly used dosage forms including tablets,capsules,dispersible tablets,granules,and dry suspensions.Regarding cefuroxime axetil,you need to know at least 5 points!

　　1、Antibacterial spectrum

　　Cefuroxime axetil belongs to the second generation cephalosporins,and its effect on Gram positive bacteria is lower or close to that of the first generation cephalosporins,while its effect on Gram negative bacteria is stronger than that of the first generation cephalosporins.

　　2、Indications and treatment course

　　In addition to the infection caused by the above bacteria,cefuroxime axetil is also used for early Lyme disease caused by Borrelia burgdorferi and gonorrhea caused by Neisseria gonorrhoeae.

　　Treatment of Lyme disease:The recommended dosage is 500mg twice a day for 14 days.

　　For the treatment of uncomplicated gonorrhea:the recommended dosage is 1g orally in a single dose.

　　3、Suggested medication time

　　After oral administration,cefuroxime axetil is absorbed in the gastrointestinal tract and rapidly hydrolyzed in the intestinal mucosa and blood,releasing the active product cefuroxime and exerting bactericidal effects.

　　Compared with taking on an empty stomach,taking absorption after meals is delayed and the total amount of absorption is increased.

　　The recommended medication time is:

　　Take after meals(usually within 15 minutes after meals).

　　4、Disulfiram like reaction

　　Chinese Physicians and Pharmacists"Clinical Medication Guidelines(Second Edition):

　　Cefuroxime can cause disulfiram like reactions,and alcohol containing drugs should be avoided during and within 1 week after medication.

　　5、Medication disclosure

　　1.Take after meals.

　　2.Tablets should not be taken apart.

　　Cefuroxime axetil has a bitter taste(strong and long-lasting),so it is made into film coated tablets and cannot be taken separately.

　　Children can choose cefuroxime axetil dry suspension.Cefuroxime axetil dry suspension can be swallowed directly or stirred evenly with 10-15ml of warm water(≤40℃)before taking.

　　3.Avoid drinking alcohol during and within 1 week after medication.

　　4.Cefuroxime can cause pseudomembranous colitis.If there is persistent or severe diarrhea or abdominal colic during the medication period,treatment should be stopped immediately and medical attention should be sought.
